DON’T BLINK
Core Concept
The app uses the phone’s front camera to detect blinks reliably and privately. Blink timing affects, enemy behavior and certain puzzle triggers, making the player’s physical actions central to strategy.
Gameplay
Runs are generated with premade puzzle pieces. Each attempt offers different layouts, item placement, and modifiers. Failure resets progress but awards meta-progression (unlockable abilities, modifiers, and narrative snippets) to encourage experimentation.
Single-object narrative: The primary objective of each run is to find and retrieve one object that ties the current run into the broader story. Retrieving the object reveals additional fragments of the narrative and changes future run conditions.
Future Plans
The current build establishes core blink mechanics, roguelite systems, and the narrative scaffold. Planned improvements include:
Expanded enemy types and AI behaviors that interact more subtly with blink timing
Additional narrative branches tied to long-term unlockables
Enhanced camera-based detection robustness across lighting and device ranges
Community features: leaderboards, run-sharing.
Visuals
Black-and-white visual language: High-contrast, monochrome art creates an evocative atmosphere, emphasizes silhouette-based readability, and supports accessibility for players sensitive to color. The aesthetic enhances the tension of blink-based mechanics and gives the game a distinct identity.
User Experience and Privacy
Calibration: A short, in-app calibration lets players adapt blink sensitivity to their physiology and environment lighting.
Privacy-first implementation: Blink detection runs locally; no video is stored or uploaded. Users can opt for an entirely non-camera control mode (Auto/tap-to-blink) if they prefer.
Dont Blink offers a distinctive blend of real-world interaction and procedural game design, wrapped in a minimalist black-and-white aesthetic. Its core blink-detection mechanic creates a fresh take on stealth, timing, and puzzle play.
